BEST Literacy is a competency-based assessment that uses a variety of functional literacy tasks to measure English language learner’s ability to read and write. Beginning July 1, 2008, NYS agencies have the option of using this test to additionally assess students with BEST Plus scores of 541 or higher for the National Reporting System. In this workshop you will learn what the BEST Literacy Test is, how to administer and score it, and how to interpret those scores in relation to NRS Levels and instructional design. This is not a required NYSED but is advisable for programs using the BEST Literacy.
Please continue to use the current versions of the BEST Plus (2.0) and BEST Literacy (1.0) throughout the entire FY25 (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025). For more information on BEST Plus 3.0 and BEST Literacy 2.0, please visit the AEPP website: https://www.acces.nysed.gov/aepp/news
This 4 hour training counts toward the 14 hours of professional development requirement for all NYSED funded program staff.
