Learning To Achieve: Explicit Instruction and Content Learning
Presenter: Kathy Houghton, Literacy NY
Morning Refreshments and Working Lunch Provided
This workshop, based on the federal Learning to Achieve research and training curriculum, along with additional sources, introduces the Explicit Instruction teaching model and shows how Explicit Instruction can be used to help adults with Learning Disabilities (LD) and all learners develop strategies to learn. We will pair this Explicit Instruction with Content Learning, also from the Learning to Achieve project. Content Learning covers instructional approaches that can help adults with LD and all learners learn content from written materials– exactly what we ask of our adult learners. Combining these two workshops allows for hands-on practice with the Explicit Instruction teaching model using content relevant to your teaching and tutoring.
This 6 hour training counts toward the 14 hours of professional development requirement for all NYSED funded program staff.
