ESOL Training: Teaching Vocabulary (VIRTUAL)

Presented by: Capital Region Language Center

All ESL teachers understand that teaching vocabulary is an essential part of language instruction, but it can be challenging to make vocabulary instruction effective and engaging. This interactive workshop will offer practical tips and research-based techniques to help our students internalize all the aspects of learning a word, from meaning and pronunciation to collocations, spelling, register, and appropriate cultural context. Participants will have opportunities to share their experiences and exchange ideas and activities. They will leave the workshop with a toolkit of effective approaches to support their learners’ vocabulary development in diverse classroom settings.

Note: Participants should bring 1-2 appropriate resources such as an upcoming unit, vocabulary lists, and assignments to share with the group.

This 3 hour training counts toward the 14 hours of professional development requirement for all NYSED funded program staff.
